Ministry Spotlight: Walking with Moms in Need

The Feast of the Annunciation: Will you say “yes” to a mom in need?

On March 25, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Annunciation—the moment Mary said “yes” to God in the midst of an unexpected and uncertain pregnancy. Her faithful response becomes a model of trust, courage, and love.

This same spirit is at the heart of Walking with Moms in Need.

As we reflect on the Annunciation, we are reminded that Jesus entered the world as a vulnerable child, entrusted to the care of a mother who did not walk alone. Mary was supported and accompanied—most especially in her visit to Elizabeth. In the same way, mothers facing difficult pregnancies today need a community to surround them with compassion, encouragement, and practical care.

How Our Parish is Responding

Walking with Moms in Need invites our parish to become an “island of mercy,” where every mother is seen, supported, and never left to face her journey alone.

Since launching at St. Michael in January 2024, this ministry has assisted more than a dozen pregnant mothers facing challenging circumstances. Through the generosity of our parish community, support has included:

  • 4 car seats
  • 2 cribs
  • 6 strollers
  • 2 bassinets
  • 1 Pack and Play
  • diapers, wipes, clothing, and other essential baby items

Each item represents more than a need met—it reflects a mother accompanied and a child welcomed with love.

Why It Matters

Every mother deserves to know she is not alone.

Walking with Moms in Need is a simple but powerful expression of our call to uphold the dignity of every human life. It is a reminder that small acts of care—offered with love—can bring hope, stability, and peace during moments of uncertainty.

A Parish Living Its “Yes”

As Mary said “yes” to God’s call, we too are invited to respond—with compassion, generosity, and faith.

Together, may we continue to build a parish community where every mother is supported, every child is welcomed, and no one walks alone.
