FAQS

HOW DOES INTERMEDIATE SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION (ISP) WORK?

Traditionally, students receive First Eucharist in second grade at the age of reason (7). If your child is older than 7, he or she can still prepare for this sacrament! The Diocese of Raleigh calls for two years of Sacramental Preparation for families preparing for First Eucharist, so your child will receive the sacrament in the spring of the second year of formation.

Students are placed in ISP classes based on age: 8-10, 11-13, or 13-High School. (Those college-age or above would attend RCIA to prepare for sacraments.)

HOW LONG IS COMMUNION PREPARATION?

The Diocese of Raleigh calls for two years of sacramental preparation for families preparing for First Eucharist.

WHEN ARE ISP CLASSES HELD?

Our ISP classes meet on Sundays September-May from 3:15-4:30 pm at St. Michael's School.

Students in their first year of preparation participate in family-based catechesis classes. You and your family will learn the basics of the Mass, liturgical calendar, prayers, and community.
