Special Collection for Humanitarian Relief in Gaza
St. Michael Welcomes Bishops’ Call for Special Collection for Gaza
It is with great pastoral concern that we share news of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The suffering of Christians and other innocent victims of violence in Gaza and surrounding areas is heartbreaking, as families struggle to survive, protect their children, and live with dignity in dire conditions. As the Holy Father has called for a ceasefire and for humanitarian aid to enter the territory, he reminds us of the urgent need to care for those in distress, noting with great sorrow that “Gaza is starving.”
In response to this extraordinary crisis, Bishop Luis has asked all parishes to consider taking up a special collection to provide humanitarian relief and pastoral support for our brothers and sisters affected in Gaza and surrounding areas of the Middle East.
At St. Michael the Archangel Parish, we will take up this special second collection on the weekend of September 21. Funds collected will be distributed through the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) and Catholic Relief Services (CRS). Both organizations have long-standing partnerships with the Catholic Church in the region, allowing them to respond quickly and efficiently with emergency food, shelter, and other humanitarian assistance.
This will be a true second collection, and there will be no envelopes provided. Parishioners are encouraged to bring donations to Mass that weekend.
We also join with the faithful throughout the world in prayer for protection, healing, and support for those affected. Your generosity through both prayer and giving, brings Christ’s mercy and compassion to those in need.
How to Participate:
-
Bring a donation to Mass on September 21.
-
Pray for the people of Gaza, asking God to grant them safety, hope, and relief.
