Our Lady of Fatima & The Gift of Vocations at St. Michael

“Mary said, ‘Do whatever He tells you.’” – John 2:5

The message of Our Lady of Fatima is one of prayer, conversion, and faithful obedience to God’s will. In that same spirit, two women serving within our parish family have devoted their lives to Christ through the congregation of the Hermanas Misioneras del Rosario de Fátima (Missionary Sisters of the Rosary of Fatima).

Welcoming the Sisters of the Missionary Rosary of Fatima

In August 2023, we joyfully welcomed Sister Lizbeth Hernández Alcántar and Madre María del Refugio Gutiérrez (Madre Lucía) to our parish. Their presence among us has been a blessing of joy, humility, and Marian devotion.

Before their arrival, Very Reverend Michael Burbeck, Vicar General, visited their community in Mexico City and witnessed the sisters’ deep love for the Eucharist and their mission to honor the dignity of every human life.

Their charism – rooted in Our Lady of Fatima’s message – calls them to pray for peace, promote devotion to the Eucharist, and help others grow in holiness through service.

Honoring Our Sisters’ Vocations

On October 13, 2025, the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, our parish rejoiced as both Sisters celebrated extraordinary milestones:

  • Sister Lizbeth made her Final Profession of Vows, fully dedicating her life to God.
  • Madre Lucía marked her 50th Anniversary of Religious Life, a half-century of prayer and service to the Church.

Father Scott McCue and Deacon Luis Royo, Director of Hispanic Ministry, traveled to Mexico to be present for Sister Liz’s vows. We give thanks to God for these two faithful women who embody the message of Fatima – complete trust in God’s plan and a life offered in love.

Vocations: A Call to Holiness

Their witness reminds us that every vocation – whether to the priesthood, consecrated life, marriage, or single life – is a response to God’s loving call.

As we approach National Vocation Awareness Week (November 2–8, 2025), we pray that the example of Sister Lizbeth and Madre Lucía will inspire others to listen for the Lord’s voice and say “yes” to His will.

“Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” – Matthew 9:38
