Campus Emergency Procedures

St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church has established an Emergency Action Plan to ensure a safe and prepared response in the event of a crisis or medical emergency on campus. All staff, volunteers, and ministry leaders are expected to be familiar with this plan and understand their roles and responsibilities.

When to Call 911
Call 911 immediately if someone is experiencing any of the following:
- Is not breathing
- Has lost consciousness
- May have a severe neck or spinal injury
- Has an open fracture (bone punctured through skin)
- Is suffering from severe heat exhaustion or suspected heat stroke
- Has severe bleeding that cannot be stopped
- Has had an EpiPen administered in response to an allergic reaction
- Or for any emergency that feels beyond your control
Notify Church Leadership
Once 911 has been called, immediately notify:
Step-by-Step Response Procedure
1. Lead Person Identified
2. Call 911
3. Remain on the Phone
4. Runners Assigned to Direct EMS
5. If a Minor is Involved
- The highest-ranking staff member present becomes the lead
- This person remains with the individual needing assistance and monitors the situation
- The lead designates someone to make the 911 call immediately
- Provide the following to the dispatcher:
- Nature of the emergency
- Condition of the individual (e.g., unconscious, not breathing)
- First aid already provided
- Address: 804 High House Rd., Cary, NC 27513
- Specific location of the emergency on campus
- Directions for EMS to reach the scene
- Do not hang up until the 911 dispatcher ends the call
The lead responder will assign staff or volunteers to serve as runners, positioned at all key intersections between the campus entrance and the emergency location. These runners will:
- Stand at their assigned spots and remain in position
- Clearly wave and direct the ambulance through the correct turns
- Ensure EMS reaches the person in need as quickly and efficiently as possible
- If a parent or guardian is not present, a staff member must accompany the individual to the hospital.
