Deacon Brian Phillips headshot

Hello, my name is Deacon Brian, and I am a deacon here at St. Michael’s. I was ordained a deacon in 2014 and have been a parishioner since 1991 (my wife entered the Catholic Church at St. Michael’s in the old Beer Warehouse in 1996). As a deacon, I serve others in many varied and exciting ways. Deacons in the Church can: teach, preach, marry, bury, and baptize. I do all these aspects, and many more. I work with my wife doing Eucharistic services at retirement homes; we also prepare couples for marriage and counsel homeless families.

My wife, Mary Beth, and I have been married since 1985, and we have two married children who both live in the area. I am retired from my conventional career of being an environmental, health, and safety professional. I now work full-time in various ministries, mainly around my deaconal call. I also am a part-time teacher, and I work as a lifeguard at the local YMCA's in Cary.
I am originally from Raleigh. My parents immigrated to this country and located in North Carolina from Great Britain. My three siblings all live within 30 miles of me. Our two married children, Kevin and Jean, live in the nearby area. I swim, read, and perform living history around the area.
My favorite Bible story is probably the parable of the Prodigal Son. This story so moves me with the love that God has for all his children.

The people here are incredible. I so enjoy interacting with, and serving them. I look forward to getting to know you!
