Epiphany House Blessing (Bilingual)
The traditional date of Epiphany is January 6, but in the United States it is celebrated on the Sunday between January 2 and January 8. Our blessed chalk will be available for home blessings on January 3–4.
It is a long-held Catholic tradition to bless one’s home on (or near) the celebration of the Epiphany by using chalk to write a special inscription above the home’s entrance. This weekend, we are blessing chalk at Mass for you to take home and participate in this tradition.
If you are unable to attend Mass at St. Michael the weekend of January 3–4, you can bless chalk at home yourself! You can find the blessing to do so below.
The inscription written over the door changes every year. For this year, you should write: “20 + C + M + B + 26.”
The letters C, M, and B have two meanings. They are the initials of the traditional names of the three magi: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar. They are also the first letters of the Latin words Christus mansionem benedicat, “May Christ bless the house.” The + signs represent the cross, and 2026 is the year.
Below we have included a very family-friendly Epiphany home blessing. Here is a different one from the USCCB. Both are perfectly valid!
Blessing the Chalk
Priest/Adult: Our help is the name of the Lord:
All: The maker of heaven and earth.
Priest/Adult: The Lord shall watch over your going out and your coming in:
All: From this time forth for evermore.
Priest/Adult: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.
Priest/Adult: Let us pray.
All: Loving God, bless this chalk which you have created, that it may be helpful to your people; and grant that through the invocation of your most Holy Name all who use it in faith to write upon the doors of their homes the names of your saints, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar, may receive health of body and protection of soul for all who dwell in or visit their home; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
(You may sprinkle the chalk with holy water.)
Instructions for Blessing the Home
Optional Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:1–16.
Also optional: you can sprinkle holy water in each room of your house while singing hymns or praying the rosary. Then gather at the front door of your home.
Using the blessed chalk, mark the lintel of your front door (or porch step, or a wall within your home) as follows:
20 + C + M + B + 26
saying:
The three Wise Men, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar, followed the star of God’s Son who became human two thousand and twenty-six years ago. May Christ bless our home and remain with us throughout the new year. Amen.
Then say the following prayer:
Visit, O blessed Lord, this home with the gladness of your presence. Bless all who live or visit here with the gift of your love; and grant that we may manifest your love to each other and to all whose lives we touch. May we grow in grace and in the knowledge and love of you; guide, comfort, and strengthen us in peace, O Jesus Christ, now and for ever. Amen.

La fecha tradicional de la Epifanía es el 6 de Enero, pero en los Estados Unidos se celebra el domingo entre el 2 y el 8 de Enero. Nuestra tiza bendita estará disponible para las bendiciones del hogar el 3 y 4 de Enero.
Es una tradición católica muy antigua bendecir el hogar en (o cerca de) la celebración de la Epifanía usando tiza para escribir una inscripción especial sobre la entrada de la casa. Este fin de semana, estamos bendiciendo tiza en la Misa para que la lleves a casa y participes en esta tradición.
Si no puedes asistir a Misa en St. Michael el fin de semana del 3 y 4 de Enero, ¡puedes bendecir la tiza en casa tú mismo! A continuación encontrarás la oración para hacerlo.
La inscripción escrita sobre la puerta cambia cada año. Para este año, deberás escribir: “20 + C + M + B + 26”.

Bendición de la Tiza
Sacerdote/Adulto: Nuestro auxilio está en el nombre del Señor.

Sacerdote/Adulto: El Señor cuidará tu salida y tu llegada.
Todos: Desde ahora y para siempre.
Sacerdote/Adulto: El Señor esté con ustedes.
Todos: Y con tu espíritu.
Sacerdote/Adulto: Oremos.
Todos: Dios amoroso, bendice esta tiza que tú has creado, para que sea de ayuda a tu pueblo; y concede que, por la invocación de tu santísimo Nombre, todos los que la usen con fe para escribir sobre las puertas de sus hogares los nombres de tus santos, Gaspar, Melchor y Baltasar, reciban salud del cuerpo y protección del alma, tanto quienes viven en este hogar como quienes lo visiten. Por Jesucristo nuestro Señor. Amén.

Instrucciones para Bendecir el Hogar
Lectura opcional: Mateo 2:1–16.
También opcional: puedes rociar agua bendita en cada habitación de la casa mientras cantas himnos o rezas el rosario. Luego reúnanse en la puerta principal del hogar.
Con la tiza bendita, marca el dintel de la puerta principal (o el escalón, o una pared dentro de la casa) de esta manera:

diciendo:
Los tres Reyes Magos, Gaspar, Melchor y Baltasar, siguieron la estrella del Hijo de Dios que se hizo hombre hace dos mil veintiséis años. Que Cristo bendiga nuestro hogar y permanezca con nosotros durante el nuevo año. Amén.
Luego recen la siguiente oración:
Señor bendito, visita este hogar con la alegría de tu presencia. Bendice a todos los que viven o visitan aquí con el don de tu amor; y concédenos manifestar tu amor unos a otros y a todos aquellos cuyas vidas tocamos.
