PRAYING FOR OUR HOLY FATHER
A Message from Fr. Scott
My Dear People,
“Through the Cross of Christ the Evil One is overcome, death is defeated, life is given to us, hope is restored. This is important: through the Cross of Christ hope is restored to us.” These were the words of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, at an Angelus address in 2014. How fitting it was that the Holy Father passed away on Easter Monday, during these eight days when we celebrate Christ’s victory over death.
With the Church throughout the world, we mourn the death of our beloved Pope Francis, who has left a profound legacy on the Church and the world. On his last full day on this earth, the Holy Father greeted those assembled in St. Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday and then rode among the people in the Popemobile. The shepherd went out among his sheep for the last time. Now, Francis has returned to the house of the Father.
We will celebrate the regular Tuesday night Mass at 7:00 PM in Spanish and pray in particular for the repose of the soul of the Holy Father. We will celebrate a special Mass in English on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. You are welcome to come to the Eucharist to remember and to pray for Pope Francis.
The Church is now in the time of “Sede Vacante.” This is translated as “the seat being vacant.” The Church will observe a nine-day period of mourning, during which the funeral for the Holy Father will take place. Once that is completed, the Cardinals of the world under the age of 80 will gather for the Conclave to elect a new Pope. During this time, we pray earnestly for the Holy Spirit to descend upon the College of Cardinals as they choose a new Successor to the Apostle Peter.
Let us pray for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. He loved the Church so much and gave his life entirely in its service. We can learn so much from the humility, zeal, love, and service of the Holy Father.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas,
“Por la Cruz de Cristo, el Maligno es vencido, la muerte es derrotada, se nos da la vida, se nos devuelve la esperanza. Esto es importante: por la Cruz de Cristo, se nos devuelve la esperanza”. Estas fueron las palabras del Santo Padre, el Papa Francisco, en el Ángelus de 2014. Qué oportuno fue que el Santo Padre falleciera el Lunes de Pascua, durante estos ocho días en que celebramos la victoria de Cristo sobre la muerte.
Con la Iglesia de todo el mundo, lamentamos la muerte de nuestro amado Papa Francisco, quien dejó un profundo legado en la Iglesia y en el mundo. En su último día completo en esta tierra, el Santo Padre saludó a los reunidos en la Plaza de San Pedro el Domingo de Pascua y luego se paseó entre la gente en el papamóvil. El pastor salió entre sus ovejas por última vez. Ahora, Francisco ha regresado a la casa del Padre.
Celebraremos por el papa Francisco la misa del martes por la noche a las 7:00 PM en español y en ella rezaremos en particular por el descanso del alma del Santo Padre. Celebraremos una misa especial en inglés el miércoles por la noche a las 7:00 PM. Les invitamos a asistir a la Eucaristía para recordar y orar por el Papa Francisco.
La Iglesia se encuentra ahora en tiempo de “Sede Vacante”. Esta expresión del latín se traduce: “La silla está vacante”. La Iglesia estará en un período de luto de 9 días durante el cual se celebrará el funeral del Santo Padre. Una vez finalizado, los cardenales del mundo menores de 80 años se reunirán en el Cónclave para elegir un nuevo Papa. Durante este tiempo, oramos fervientemente para que el Espíritu Santo descienda sobre el Colegio Cardenalicio mientras eligen al nuevo sucesor del Apóstol Pedro.
