What is the Honduras Sister Parish?

How it Started?

Monsignor Wall in 2000 had a connection with the Honduran Bishop, Bishop Muldoon, who worked with St. Michaels to find the Church Our Lady of Suyapa in Nueva Palestina.

The First Mission Trip

The first mission trip was in 2001. The mission consisted of four St. Michael’s Parishioners. The trip consisted of 4 days meeting with the Bishop to establish the mission and 3 days in Nueva Palestina. Mark Baric, one of the original members of the Honduras Sister Parish Council, remembers the original church (less than half the size of today, thanks to St. Michaels parishioners’ faith and dedication) and the Nun’s convent had a kitchen made of dirt floors with no running water. The first Mission helped establish ideas for programs still in place today.

The First Initiatives

Medical Focus – funding to provide medications and health care to the Church community.

Education program – the first year we sponsored 20 children.

Twenty-two years later, The Honduras Sister Parish Ministry consists of four programs with many initiatives within each program to help improve the lives of our Honduran brothers and sisters. St. Michael’s generosity helps make this possible!
