The Sacrament of Marriage (Holy Matrimony) is a public sign that one gives oneself totally in love and service to another person. This loving union of marriage is also a sign which reveals the Lord Jesus and through which his divine life and love are communicated to the world. A couple's relationship expresses in a unique way the unbreakable bond of love between Christ and His people, the Church. The sacrament of Christian marriage brings every moment of a couple’s life into a relationship with Christ Jesus as they journey together.
"But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'
'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.'
So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
Planning your marriage liturgy at St. Michael begins with first reviewing the St. Michael Wedding Information Booklet. After reviewing the booklet, please contact Leslie Stironek, Director of Sacramental Life at St. Michael ([email protected] or 919-468-6103), to set up an appointment to determine marriage eligibility, complete the required marriage paperwork, and discuss wedding dates.
Selecting a Date and Time
Marriage Liturgies are celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel on Friday afternoons/evenings and on Saturdays at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. They are not scheduled on Saturday evenings, Sunday, Holy Days or during the Season of Lent.
Rehearsals are scheduled the afternoon or evening before your wedding day. Your rehearsal will normally take 45 minutes and can be scheduled 4-5 months prior to your wedding date.
The Church takes great care and concern in the Preparation of each couple who is preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage by establishing a period of a six-month time for preparation for Marriage as well as requiring participation in the Diocesan Marriage Workshop, Fully Engaged Assessment and assessment review and counseling by a trained Mentor couple. To register for the required Diocesan Marriage Workshop and for more information about the Fully Engaged Assessment, please visit http://www.dioceseofraleigh.org/offices/marriage-and-family-life/marriage-preparation.
If you or your family are not currently registered members of the St. Michael parish community, you will be required to do so prior to your wedding.
