Our Youth Group is a fun and active group that was formed 3 years ago when we combined our English and Spanish Youth Groups into one.  Since then, this group has grown and organized to a leadership and service group.  It is led by 7 Young people who guide activities, calendar and service projects.

The youth group is for “any teen, any time” and has students that are not Catholic, public school, Catholic School, and homeschool students.  We meet Wednesday nights from 7-9pm and run year-round.   During the summer, we focus on social events that we can invite new members to.

During the school year, we usually have food, games, talks, speakers and service projects.  A few projects we worked on this year:

  • Preparing items for St. Mike’s Tikes events, including chalkboards and Easter eggs
  • Creating the Marian Consecration packets
  • Teaching at the teen First Reconciliation and Eucharist workshops
  • Drive-thru Nativity scenes

Some of our other activities include:

  • Game nights
  • Movie nights
  • Hosted the Vagabond Missionaries
  • Study Hours
  • Bonfires and Scripture Study
  • 33 Days to Morning Glory Marian Consecration
  • Friendsgiving and Christmas Party
  • Virtual Game Nights

We met online for a short time at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic but switched to outdoor meetings since last summer.  Our meetings are planned for outdoor locations throughout summer 2021.

This is a fun, friendly and faithful group of young people that welcome all teens.  We invite you to find out more with the links below, help financially with upcoming events, or just come check it out for yourself!

St. Michael the Archangel Faith Formation

St. Michael Faith Formation staff, through prayer and grace, is committed to providing our families with:

Support and instruction for the parents, the primary catechists of their children

Meaningful and comprehensive Sacrament Preparation

A desire for lifelong formation.

We strive to provide this through quality programs at each level of catechesis.  Information for families seeking Faith Formation is listed below.

Intermediate Sacramental Preparation (First Reconciliation and Eucharist Preparation)

Ages 8-High School

Staff Contact: Jeannine Hughes

The Diocese of Raleigh and our Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama call for two years of Sacramental Preparation for families preparing for First Eucharist.  These are traditionally done in first and second grade with the reception of the Sacrament in the spring of second grade.  Students older than 7 can prepare for First Reconciliation and Eucharist in our Intermediate Sacramental Preparation (ISP) program.

ISP classes meet Sundays from September-May.  Classes are typically held 3:30-4:45pm in St. Michael School.  Students are placed in classes based on age, 8-10, 11-13, 13-High School.

First Year (First grade) - First year preparation is catechesis that focuses on  the mass, liturgical calendar, prayers and community.

Second Year (Second grade) - Second year students are more deeply connected to the community through the option of mentoring.  Students will prepare and celebrate their First Reconciliation (Confession) in preparation for receiving First Eucharist.  They will learn more about the Eucharist through activities, lessons and workshops.

If you would like more information or would like the opportunity to volunteer with our Intermediate Sacramental Preparation, please contact Jeannine Hughes at [email protected] or 919-468-6120.

Mentoring - Second Year students have the opportunity to mentor a second grade First Eucharist Preparation student.  Students will come during the 3:30-4:45pm Sunday time.  They will learn the material and activity one week and then meet with the mentee the following week to teach it.  This helps to form relationships and strengthen their knowledge of the basics of the Sacraments.

Traditional- Our traditional classes meet Sundays from 6:15-8:00pm in St. Michael School.  These classes are gender based small groups that use the CHOSEN program.  CHOSEN is a video based program with an adult leader.

Cardinal Gibbons Confirmation Preparation: The CG Confirmation Preparation is 4 day-long workshops (10am-2pm) based on the CGHS School Calendar.  They are scheduled to take place at St. Michael Church on Teacher inservice days that students do not report to school.  This program is designed to be complementary to the CGHS Theology classes and provide a place of connection with the St. Michael Parish.  Since this program is abbreviated, attendance at all workshop days for the entire day is required for completion.  This option is only for students currently enrolled at Cardinal Gibbons High School.
