The Gabriel ProjectHelping Mother and Baby
AccomplishmentsSince we started the Gabriel Project in our parish in January 1999, we have helped at least 74 mothers (as of March 2004). The project has structured itself into several subcommittees and started to coordinate efforts with projects in other parishes at the diocesan level. Gabriel Project volunteers make dozens of baby bonnets every year to be distributed to expectant mothers. As the story below illustrates, it does make a difference! To All Bonnet-Making Volunteers: [March 2004] "A coordinator from Birthchoice called the other day and said she gave one of the bonnets to a girl who was contemplating an abortion. When the coordinator gave the girl one of your bonnets, she was so touched. She couldn't believe someone took the time and cared so much. It was at that moment she decided not to have an abortion." Since June 1999, we have held baby item drives every Spring and Fall to collect baby equipment (cribs, strollers, changing tables, breast pumps, etc.), maternity, infant and toddler clothes. We try to maintain a stock of items in case of emergency. We have participated in several church events including:
We have created several publicity materials:
