I. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
All teens in Grades 9-12 are invited to participate in the St. Michael High School Youth Ministry Program. The full program begins in September 2009 and continues through May 2010.
The St. Michael High School Youth Ministry is a comprehensive and multidimensional program that seeks to (1) empower youth with the virtues and practices central to a Catholic identity, (2) inspire teens to give of themselves in service, (2) awaken a Catholic spirituality by seeing God’s actions in everyday life.
Central to the H.S. Youth Ministry Program is forming our teens in the teachings and traditions of our Catholic faith. Faith Formation studies will be offered to the youth in the setting of twice monthly small group sessions. Additionally, through the H.S. Youth Ministry Program, the Parish will provide opportunities for bible study, service projects, parish-based and Diocesan retreats, and fellowship and recreational activities. These activities are scheduled throughout the program.
II. DESCRIPTION OF FAITH FORMATION STUDIES
Central to the H.S. Youth Ministry Program is forming our teens in the teachings and traditions of our Catholic faith. Faith Formation studies will be offered to the youth in the setting of twice monthly small group sessions on Thursday evenings (7:00 pm – 8:30 pm) or Sunday afternoons (4:00 pm – 5:45 pm). Participants are organized into small groups with consideration to their grade level and whether they have been Confirmed.
The High School Faith Formation curriculum provides solid and comprehensive catechesis that makes connections between life and faith by incorporating teen’s life experiences, presenting a core theological message, and helping youth apply the truth of faith to everyday life.
The 11th and 12th grade youth participate in the Servant Leadership Council. The Council will meet twice monthly on Sunday afternoons (4:00 pm – 5:45 pm). Lead by a team of adult volunteers, this Council will mentor junior youth in 9th and 10th grades, lead prayer services, assist in faith formation studies, coordinate service opportunities, and grow in knowledge and spirituality of our Catholic faith.
Note to Catholic School Students to be Confirmed Spring 2009: Catholic School students who are planning to be Confirmed in Spring 2010 are welcome to participate in the full program beginning in September, though this is optional. Catholic H.S. students are required to register for the Sacramental Preparation sessions beginning in January. Here they will join those students already in session, where the curriculum focuses on preparing students for Confirmation.
