Advent ActivitiesNov 29th
Rumors of Heaven (3 Wednesday evenings, 7:30-9:00pm, starting WEDNESDAY, December 3rd. Cost: $15/person, $20/couple.) This is the third time we've offered this popular course that explores the Christian vision of heaven and life to come. Using vignettes from contemporary movies, classical literature, Holy Scripture, Catholic dogma and modern thought, we will be exploring the Catholic understanding of what heaven is, how we can get there and what we might expect. As the Church enters the season of Advent, this will be an excellent way to prepare ourselves to celebrate the coming of the Saviour. Friday Evening Advent Reflections with Fr. Michael Burke (Fridays, December 5th and 12th, 8:00-9:00pm in the Church.) Using the medium of music, reflection upon the Scriptures and meditative prayer, Fr. Michael will offer two wonderful evenings of spiritual nourishment as we prepare ourselves for the celebration of Christmas. An accomplished pianist and veteran retreat director, Fr. Burke creates an environment that will bring peace to your soul and a chance to catch your breath and refocus your energies during this busiest of seasons. The Purpose Driven Life (3 more Monday evenings, continuing MONDAY, December 1st, 7:30-9:00pm, top floor of the Trinity Center. Cost: $15/person.) Having finished the first 21 days of the book, our growing group decided to push on to the end (so if you've already read parts of the book and weren't able to join us in November, now's the time to hop aboard!) In 2002, Rick Warren, the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in California (a gigantic evangelical community), published "The Purpose Driven Life", a follow-on to his previous best-seller, "The Purpose-Driven Church". It is written particularly for people who are searching for a deeper, more meaningful walk with Christ. The book has 40 chapters, one for each day of a 40 day program. If you're looking to really be challenged in your faith, your direction in life and your understanding of God's plan for you, set aside some time and plan on joining us. Blood Drive Monday December 1, 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. Sign up appointment sheet located on the table outside Usher's room in the gathering space. Walk-ins always welcome, or contact Dallas Foster for an appointment time. Please consider donating at this time of the year. There is always a shortage during the holiday season. BILINGUAL VOLUNTERRS NEEDED FOR THE JESSE TREE GIFT DISTRIBUTIONS on DECEMBER 14TH: In order to keep the lines moving quickly, we need bilingual volunteers to greet and escort families to the appropriate tables to collect their gifts. The bilingual volunteers also help our Spanish speaking families relax so that they are not put in yet another stressful situation where they are expected to speak English. I am looking for about 15 bilingual speakers or somewhat Spanish-literate folks that would be willing to donate a few hours on Sunday, December 14 from 3:30 - 6:30 to help us out. They would be part of our "Greeting Team" are needed to greet and escort families to their gifts as they arrive for pick-up. For more info, please contact Cheryl Rogers. |
